The space captured by the camera, enclosed within the four edges of the digital frame, stages an unspoken black box theatre — the interactions between people and objects unfolding with indeterminate intent. As the lens pulls back to reveal that the space is simply an apartment balcony, this disclosure does not restore its ordinary function; through the zoom of the camera, it has already been reshaped into a place of ambiguous purpose, and the movements of those recorded within it rendered, under the magnifying gaze, without clear meaning.
