Kate Cheung is a multidisciplinary artist based in Hong Kong, specializes in a variety of disciplines including moving image, media art, textile art, and poetry.
Kate’s work explores the potential of poetry through the extensive use of visual, textile, and intermedia techniques. Her works merge threads, fabric, and digital image to forge a new language, conveying messages through their essence. She believes that poetry can be created and read not only through papers and letters, but also through images and tangible substances. Through her works, she unveils the lingering shadows of her childhood trauma, while also expressing her thoughts on the modern concept of female. Raised in a traditional Asian family, she carries the weight of her upbringing like a burden on her shoulders. Yet, she bravely presents her own perspective to the world through the medium of art, allowing her innermost thoughts and emotions to take shape and be shared with others.
She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the School of Creative Media at City University of Hong Kong and also studied filmmaking at the Taipei National University of the Arts. She was selected as one of the artists for the Taipei Art Book Fair 2023, the 4th BOOKED: Hong Kong Art Book Fair, and the 4th Hong Kong Book Art Festival. In addition, she conducted a solo talk at Lemna of The Alchemist, participated in a duo exhibition at the Yrellag Gallery in 2023 and Pointsman Artspace in 2024. Recently, she has been collaborating with other artists, showcasing her work on an international stage in locations such as Taipei, Thailand, and Japan.
Besides, she is also one of the Hong Kong Duo 森麻實道 Somerset Road , as well as the co-founder and curator of maison meander .
畸主要進行紡織藝術丶錄像藝術丶詩篇寫作及音樂創作。她的作品大多由詩出發，開拓詩與其他媒體的可能性，包括紡織與錄像藝術的詩性結合丶影像詩及聲音等。她將線帶到平面物料及影像中，書寫出新的語言，透過物料的本質傳達訊息。她相信詩不單停留在黑字白紙上，還可透過影像和物質來創作和閱讀。
畸的作品滲透著童年所殘留的創傷，同時表達了在一個傳統亞洲家庭中長大下，對現代女性的思考。如此的成長背景下，她透過不同的媒介呈現自己觀看世界的角度。
畢業於香港城市大學創意媒體學院文學士，曾赴國立台北藝術大學電影創作系交流。曾以筆名張見參與臺北草率季丶大館主辦的第四屆 BOOKED:香港藝術書展丶第四屆香港書本藝術節洄游言志。於2023年在 Lemna of The Alchemist 進行個人分享，在Yrellag Gallery舉辦首個展覽，及於2024年舉辦首個錄像藝術展覽。近年正與其他藝術家合作，將作品帶到台北丶泰國及日本等海外平台。
她亦是香港雙人音樂組合 森麻實道 Somerset Road 的其中一員，主要擔任主唱及作詞人。也是 maison meander 的聯合創辦人和策展人。
