Kate Cheung is a Hong Kong based interdisciplinary artist working across video, moving image, installation, and writing. Her practice revolves around slowness, presence, and the perception of time, while continually questioning the meanings of home, memory, and belonging. Through sustained and attentive acts of looking, she explores how time shapes relationships between people, their environments, and one another. Drawing from personal experience and memories of growing up, she also considers how the idea of “home” shapes the ways individuals understand themselves and the world around them.
Her practice is particularly concerned with the ways environments and living beings change over time, and with the fragility and uncertainty embedded within these processes. She approaches time as a medium for observation and contemplation, using prolonged observation and documentation to draw attention to overlooked details, traces, and subtle transformations within everyday landscapes. Duration, stillness, and repetition become ways of responding to time, existence, and environmental change. By recalibrating the pace of looking, she invites viewers to slow down their perception and reconsider their relationship with time, space, and the natural world.
At the same time, “home” forms another recurring thread throughout Cheung’s practice. If her engagement with time considers how we form relationships with external environments, her exploration of home turns this attention inward, towards memory, growing up, emotion, and belonging. Across her works, she revisits her own experiences of growing up and asks what “home” might mean, understanding it not as a fixed physical space, but as a fragile and fluid sense of belonging that must continually be reconstructed. Memories, relationships, distances, and absences accumulate and shift through time, leaving traces within an ongoing process of transformation.
Time and home, therefore, are not separate trajectories within her practice, but converge in a broader inquiry into existence and relationships: how we come to understand ourselves through the passage of time, and how our relationships with memory, environment, and others gradually shape our sense of where we are and where we belong. Whether observing a beam of light, a landscape, or returning to a memory, her work attends to relationships that slowly emerge, disappear, and are understood anew through time.
Her works have also been shown internationally, with exhibitions and collaborations in Ireland, Italy, Taipei, Thailand and Japan. Besides, she is also one of the co-founder of maison meander.
張君瑤是一位駐於香港的跨領域藝術家，創作涵蓋錄像、動態影像、裝置與寫作。她的實踐圍繞「慢」、「在場」與「時間感知」，同時持續探問「家」、記憶與歸屬的意義。她透過持續而專注的觀看，探索時間如何形塑人與環境、生命與彼此之間的關係，亦從個人經驗與成長記憶出發，思考「家」如何影響個體對自身、他人及世界的理解。
她的創作尤其關注環境與生命在時間中的變化，以及存在於其中的脆弱性與不確定性。她將時間視為一種觀看與默觀的媒介，以近乎正念的方式，透過長時間的觀察、記錄與凝視，重新關注日常景觀中容易被忽略的細節、痕跡與微小變化。影像中的延續、停滯與重複，成為她回應時間、存在與環境變化的方式。透過重新調整觀看的節奏，她使觀看本身成為感知世界與理解生命的過程，並邀請觀者放慢感知，重新思考自身與時間、空間及自然世界之間持續流動的關係。
與此同時，「家」亦是貫穿她創作之中的重要命題。如果前者關注的是人在時間之中如何觀看、感受並與外在環境建立關係，那麼對「家」的探問，則將這種觀看進一步轉向記憶、成長、情感與歸屬。她在多件作品中回望自身的成長經驗，反覆提問「家」究竟意味著甚麼。從個人經驗與內在情感出發，她並不將家理解為一個固定的物理空間，而視之為一種脆弱、流動，並需要持續重構的歸屬感。家庭中的記憶、關係、距離與缺席，因時間而累積、改變甚至消散，亦如她所觀察的一般，在持續變動之中留下痕跡。
因此，「時間」與「家」並非她創作中彼此分離的兩條軸線，而是共同指向一種關於存在與關係的思考：人如何在時間的流動之中理解自身，又如何透過記憶、環境與他人的關係，形成對「所在之處」的感知。無論是凝視一線光、一道風景、一件正在變化的物質，還是回望一段記憶，她的創作都關注那些在時間中緩慢生成、消逝與重新被理解的關係。
她的作品亦於國際平台展出，展覽與合作遍及愛爾蘭、意大利、台北、泰國與日本。此外，她亦是 maison meander 的聯合創辦人和策展人。
