Kate Cheung is a multidisciplinary artist based in Hong Kong, working across video, moving image, installation, and poetry to explore the language of material and form within organic and built systems.
Her practice begins with a belief that every material carries its own poetic language, shaped by the conditions of its existence. She attends to how the organic and the human-made coexist, negotiate, and speak to one another, and her videos and images grow from sustained observation, surfacing the poetic qualities already present in the world, waiting to be read.
She holds that poetic expression does not originate in words, but in the inherent language of things. Text language, she observes, often leads to overthinking. Poetry is already present — not only in text, but in all things. Her works may appear fragmented, unstable, and vulnerable, but they are also coherent, free, and resilient — like a quiet tide.
Her works have also been shown internationally, with exhibitions and collaborations in Ireland, Italy, Taipei, Thailand and Japan. Besides, she is also one of the co-founder of maison meander.
