Parrot Cinema
Video Installation | 11'52" | 2023
This video records a walk with my parrot, who stayed in her carry bag. She munched on snacks and occasionally enjoyed the "nature cinema." I take her on these parrot walks once a week, curious about what she sees—whether she enjoys the same view as I do.
It's impossible for me to know what's in her eyes since I don't have parrot eyes. A parrot's visual field spans more than 180 degrees, making it difficult for humans to understand how images are processed in their visual system and brain. The lens in the bag captures a POV from inside the bag, and maybe it's the closest way for me to understand her perspective.

By placing the bag in front of a window facing a Hong Kong city view, I created a contrast with the natural scenery we walked through, forming an intriguing, surreal visual juxtaposition. When vehicles and passersby moved outside, it felt as though my parrot was observing them.
